The Hostelrie Story

A proper rural pub for locals, by locals

The Hostelrie has stood at the heart of Goodrich for generations — a historic country pub with deep roots in the village and the surrounding Wye Valley. Originally built in the 18th century, it has long welcomed locals, walkers, and visitors exploring the nearby Goodrich Castle and River Wye.

Now, in 2025, we’re proud and excited to have reopened The Hostelrie under new ownership. After a careful and heartfelt refurbishment, we’ve brought this much-loved inn back to life as a welcoming, rural pub serving honest, high-quality food in a relaxed, friendly setting.

Our vision is simple: a place where great ingredients meet good company. We’re passionate about sourcing locally, supporting regional producers, and creating a menu that changes with the seasons and reflects the best of our surroundings.

Whether you’re here for a quiet pint, a family lunch, or a celebratory dinner, we look forward to welcoming you to The Hostelrie and making you feel right at home.

Our Mission

  • The Hostelrie is a true cornerstone of the community—a welcoming space where locals, friends, and visitors come together for good food, great company, and genuine hospitality.

  • We serve high-quality, locally sourced food at fair, sustainable prices, supporting regional producers and fellow businesses (including other pubs).

  • More than just a pub, we’re a place of warmth, laughter, and connection—a home away from home for all.

  • And if (when!) we get it right, we’ll prove that village pubs can not only survive but thrive in today’s world.
