Pub Manager

We’re looking for a live in Management Couple or an individual with Chef Experience to run the amazing pub, restaurant and inn in Goodrich, Herefordshire

The Hostelrie is a country pub in the picturesque village of Goodrich, Herefordshire, featuring a bar, restaurant, and eight guest rooms. Our vision is to create a welcoming and vibrant community hub that offers great quality, simple food at fair prices while supporting local producers and businesses.

We are looking for an energetic couple (or an ambitious individual with both management and kitchen experience) ready to take the next step in their hospitality career. You will run the pub, manage the team, and lead the kitchen,shaping the venue into a thriving business and a beloved local institution.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in hospitality: At least 2+ years in a pub, restaurant, or hotel, ideally in a management or assistant management role

  • Chef skills: At least one partner (or the individual) must have experience running a kitchen, maintaining food quality, and controlling costs

  • A strong work ethic: Ready to put in the hours and effort to make the pub a success

  • Social media savvy: Comfortable using Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms to promote the pub and engage with customers

  • Customer-focused: Passionate about creating a welcoming and community-driven atmosphere

  • A business mindset: Able to manage stock, budgets, and staffing effectively

  • Ambition: Looking for a stepping stone to running your own pub in the future

Responsibilities

Front of House & Business Management

  • Lead the day-to-day running of the pub, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for customers

  • Recruit, train, and manage a small team

  • Manage stock levels and supplier relationships

  • Oversee financials, including budgeting, pricing, and profit margins

  • Promote The Hostelrie using modern social media marketing strategies

Kitchen & Food Offering

  • Develop a simple, high-quality menu using locally sourced ingredients

  • Maintain excellent food safety and hygiene standards

  • Control kitchen costs, portion sizes, and food waste

  • Create and promote seasonal food events and specials

Community Engagement & Customer Experience

  • Build strong relationships with locals and ensure the pub is at the heart of the community

  • Create events and experiences that drive footfall, such as quiz nights, tastings, and live music

  • Ensure excellent service and atmosphere that encourages repeat visits
